Focus On What You Can Control

Focus on what you can control.

Focus on the things that you have control over. So many times you don’t have any control over what is going on around you. So the best recourse is to focus on what you can control.

When you find yourself in a situation and you feel overwhelmed, ask yourself, what is your mindset like? Do you have a fixed mindset or a growth mindset?  What things do you need to work on? That is what you can control. So it may sound cliché to say, is your glass half full or half empty, but really how you think affects everything you do.

For instance a fixed mindset would be something like this. When you have a workout to do and you look at the clock and say to yourself “Drat, I’ve only completed one round in 30 minutes, there’s no way that I’m going to be able to get three more rounds finished in the next 30 minutes. The growth mindset would be, I’ve only got 30 minutes left I better pick up my pace and kick it into gear so I can get all three rounds done in my last 30 minutes. Meeting in the middle would be I have only 30 minutes left, I’m going to push so hard to see if I can get this all done or how much I can get finished, rather then I’ll never make it in time.

The fixed mindset says; I want to run outside today but the weather forecast says it’s going to rain all day long or well, I guess I will run another day this week.  The growth mindset would be; OK, the forecast says it’s going to rain all day, but I’m going to look for that window of time that it won’t be raining and if that doesn’t happen, I’m going to run on the treadmill today.

Another fixed mindset scenario would be; I’m so overweight, I’m so behind, I feel I might as well give-up trying, I’ll never get this weight off. The growth mindset would be; I’m so excited about finding a new plan for myself to do, because I’m going to get better results this time.

Your words to yourself are the most powerful words on the planet, because what you say to yourself you believe.  Focus on what you can control, there is so much that you cannot control… so just let go and focus on the things that you can fix.

Joel Osteen would say “Don’t let one setback or disappointment stand in the way of you working towards your goals. Shake it off and get a fresh new vision for your life.  You may fail 1000 times but you may get it right on 1001, so don’t give up.”

I tried 1000 times and then this pose happened.
