Ring The Cowbell Once More!

Ring the cowbell once more

Always attempt to ring the cowbell one more time. It’s in the last attempt that victory is sealed. I had tried to do the rope climb at the Reebok Spartan Race several times the first race, in several attempts the second race only to splash back down into the water because the rope was so slippery and I couldn’t get a good foothold. I had already decided when I hit that part of the course I was going to do the 30 Burpee penalty instead. When I got to that part of the course, it wasn’t looking too likely, most of the men were already doing Burpee’s.

I saw a lady who looked very capable slide off the rope, wring her hands, and say I give up. I asked her if she usually could do the rope climb and she said ” yes, it was very slippery all the way to the midpoint”. I thought well let’s give it another shot, I’ll just do the very best I can. I jumped off the hay bale and worked really hard to get past the midpoint, then I started climbing and I could just hear this voice in my head, “You’re almost there, you’ve gotta make it now, you can’t quit now.”

The rope was swinging vigorously as I got to the top, and I realized that the cowbell was way above my head, and I would have to reach up while holding on with one arm swinging from a rope and hit it. I looked down and realized there’s no water underneath, as I gave it one more swing and rang that cowbell!!!!!! I realized that  I did it!!! Then I slid half way down the rope like a bat out of hell from sheer excitement before slowing myself down, but I didn’t end up with any rope burn. I smiled ear to ear after that accomplishment, through all the mud pits, and obstacles to the finish line to receive my Spartan Trifecta Medal. Even sweeter I was first in my age group. The moral of the story is….When you go after your goals, always try to ring that cow bell one more time. You never know when you just may get to hear it ring.
